Helping his own cause at the plate, Poplar Bluff’s Ronin Rice pitched a complete game to power the Poplar Bluff Mules past the Jackson Indians in a SEMO Conference matchup.

The Indians were able to score three runs in their half of the first inning, however, the Mules were able to come back and tie the game at 3-all on a lone single, two walks, and an error on Jackson’s defense.

“That’s something you can’t do,” Jackson coach Bryan Austin said to the Daily American Republic. “You put up a big inning you can’t allow a team to answer back and score runs like that, and we did off one hit.”

Poplar Bluff was able to rack up two RBI singles, allowing them to move forward and stand-pat with a 5-3 lead.

“We were a little tight in the beginning, I would say,” Poplar Bluff coach Steven Edwards told the Daily American Republic.

Austin McIntosh and Jared Moses both finished with multiple hits, going a combined 5-for-6 at the plate.

“Tied the ballgame up and momentum switched,” Poplar Bluff coach Steven Edwards said to the Daily American Republic. “You know, it’s baseball. It’s the greatest sport ever and you’re going to have to learn how to fight through adversity and our boys did today.”

(With Notre Dame’s loss to Sikeston, the Poplar Bluff Mules have been crowned SEMO Conference champions; going 7-1 in the conference, their only loss coming against the aforementioned Notre Dame Bulldogs).
